The DBA’s Design Effectiveness Awards honouring the best in design, held Thursday 22nd October, saw Coley Porter Bell achieve further award success in 2009. CPB’s clients Fairview Cheese (a South African brand) and Lactalis Nestlé won Gold and Bronze respectively, both in the packaging branded food and drink category.
2009 is a landmark year for the DBA Effectiveness Awards, who are celebrating 20 years of delivering accolades to deserved design consultancies and their clients, in recognition of their achievements in ensuring commercial success through design. The judges write “Coley Porter Bell were tasked with increasing brand value and reducing packaging costs of Fairview’s brie and camembert packaging. Using a naïve illustrative style, natural colour-ways and humorous copy, CPB created an irreverent yet educational design.” In the 5 months after re-launch, value sales rose by 17.8% and 23.8%, exceeding the growth target of 8%. The new design also resulted in an 8% inflationary saving on packaging.
CPB and Lactalis Nestlé were awarded Bronze for the re-launched Ski yoghurt brand. The new positioning of ‘naturally delicious’ harked back to Ski’s origins and by re-discovering its heritage and returning to its roots, Ski has been successfully re-launched; enjoying re-listing and sales growth of over 20% value and volume.
The Fairview Cheese and Lactalis Nestlé award wins see Coley Porter Bell move from 11th to 5th in the Design Effectiveness league tables.
